Dear KSEA San Diego Chapter members,

Thanks to your active participation, our chapter made good progress in every aspect.  Here are a few points I’d like to draw your attention to;

1. membership grew to 171 members (68 regulars, 68 graduates and 35 undergraduates), as of January 15 (23 % increase compared to the same period of last year).

2. About 180 participants joined the science/engineering symposia and general meeting 3. 1st Jinchoon Kim Memorial Scholarship Award Ceremony 4. Monthly bio-science seminar series

Attached is a short summary of the chapter activities for the last six months (July 1, 2011 till December 31, 2011).  

While we are planning various exciting chapter activities, please mark your calendars for the following scheduled events in the first half of 2012

a. Membership drive picnic: Saturday, March 17 b. Spring golf tournament: Saturday, March 24 c. NMSC : Saturday, April 21*

*Online registration (http://www.ksea.org/nmsc/: Jan 30 – Apr. 13): KSEA members: $10/child, Non-member: $30/child (Additional child: $10/child, regardless of the membership status)

Also, we are planning to hold a community outreach program, whose details will be announced later.

Meanwhile, since the membership is the backbone of the KSEA activities, we would like to encourage you to renew your membership/recruit new members.  To enhance the awareness of the membership, here are a couple of incentives that you might like to know.

i) Starbucks coffee cards or equivalents ($20) Among those who renew membership or newly join the KSEA in February, 5 members will be selected, and the prizes will be given at the membership drive picnic on March 17. (Picnic attendance is required!)

ii) Best Recruiter prizes

Top 3 recruiters for the period of May 1, 2011 till April 30, 2012 will be awarded (e.g. the 1st prize winner with $100)**

**New members are encouraged to email the name of the recruiter to Dr. Sunghwan Cho (kseasd.membership@gmail.com), after he/she registers online (www.ksea.org/join.aspx).  All the newly joined members from 5/1/11 till now may be contacted by Dr. Cho separately.

As a note, the postdocs or 'NEW' members will get $10 reimbursement. All the other membership discounts may be referred to the message dated October 31, 2011.
