한국생산기술원 미국기술협력센터는 한미 FTA발효를 계기로 미국시장 진출 및 진출준비 중인 기술(IP)보유 한국 기업을 대상으로 글로벌 첨단기술의 중심인 실리콘밸리에서 성공적인 미국진출을 위한 기술현지화 및 사업화 프로그램을 운영합니다.

Dear KSEA San Diego Chapter members,

Due to the expected rain on coming Saturday (3/17), the executive committee (EC) of KSEA San Diego Chapter decided to postpone the membership drive picnic from Saturday, March 17 to Saturday, April 7.  Surely, a cancellation of outdoor activities due to inclement weather is not common in San Diego, but we are concerned about the rainy day with cold atmosphere (60s) with 70 % chance of precipitation.

While the details of the April 7 schedule will be announced later, please accept my apology for any inconveniences that this schedule change may cause to you.

드디어 많은 분들이 기다리고 계시던2012 KSEA Spring Golf tournament 대회 일정이 확정되었습니다. 오는 3월 24일 우즈밸리에서 개최될 예정입니다.

KSEA 골프 대회의 목적은 KSEA-SD Chapter (재미 한인 과학 기술자 협회 샌디에고 지부)에 보다 많은 한인 과학 기술자 회원분들을 유치하고 골프를 통하여 회원들간의 친목과 교류를 넓히고자 하는데 있습니다.

골프 실력의 수준에 관계없이 참여하신다면 골프도 즐길 수 있고, 회원 여러분들간의 새로운 만남의 기회도 가질 수 있고, 더불어 실력과 운이 좋으시면 많은 상품들을 타 가실 수 있는 1석 3조의 뜻깊은 시간을 보내실 수 있습니다.

Dear KSEA Local Chapter Presidents,

I would like to ask your support on promoting the 1st Korean Student
Technical and Leadership Conference (KSTLC 2012) hosted by KSEA for
March 16th-18th in Chicago.

The application submission is on-going at this moment, and the
deadline (Feb 4th) is coming up fast. Please post an official notice
for KSTLC 2012 on chapter websites, and if possible, please forward
this promotion to KSA at local universities.

More details about the conference can be found at KSTLC website
(http://yg.ksea.org/kstlc2012), and the 1st generation Korean Students
(유학생) in the United States are encouraged to apply. We are expecting
about 100 highly-motivated participants at the conference, and various
great programs are being developed at this moment. Once review process
is completed, we will send out acceptance letter in the second week of
February to the selected applicants.

Since the conference will be hosted in Chicago, we strongly encourage
the students in Chicago area and at BigTen schools to apply and take
advantage of this great venue for networking and leadership training.

KSEA San Diego chapter announces National Mathematics and Science Competition (NMSC) 2012. Details are as follows (also refer to attached files)

3. Qualification: 4th – 11th grade Korean-American students in San Diego County

Dear KSEA San Diego Chapter members,

Thanks to your active participation, our chapter made good progress in every aspect.  Here are a few points I’d like to draw your attention to;

1. membership grew to 171 members (68 regulars, 68 graduates and 35 undergraduates), as of January 15 (23 % increase compared to the same period of last year).

2. About 180 participants joined the science/engineering symposia and general meeting 3. 1st Jinchoon Kim Memorial Scholarship Award Ceremony 4. Monthly bio-science seminar series

Attached is a short summary of the chapter activities for the last six months (July 1, 2011 till December 31, 2011).  

While we are planning various exciting chapter activities, please mark your calendars for the following scheduled events in the first half of 2012

a. Membership drive picnic: Saturday, March 17 b. Spring golf tournament: Saturday, March 24 c. NMSC : Saturday, April 21*

*Online registration (http://www.ksea.org/nmsc/: Jan 30 – Apr. 13): KSEA members: $10/child, Non-member: $30/child (Additional child: $10/child, regardless of the membership status)

Also, we are planning to hold a community outreach program, whose details will be announced later.

Meanwhile, since the membership is the backbone of the KSEA activities, we would like to encourage you to renew your membership/recruit new members.  To enhance the awareness of the membership, here are a couple of incentives that you might like to know.

i) Starbucks coffee cards or equivalents ($20) Among those who renew membership or newly join the KSEA in February, 5 members will be selected, and the prizes will be given at the membership drive picnic on March 17. (Picnic attendance is required!)

ii) Best Recruiter prizes

Top 3 recruiters for the period of May 1, 2011 till April 30, 2012 will be awarded (e.g. the 1st prize winner with $100)**

**New members are encouraged to email the name of the recruiter to Dr. Sunghwan Cho (kseasd.membership@gmail.com), after he/she registers online (www.ksea.org/join.aspx).  All the newly joined members from 5/1/11 till now may be contacted by Dr. Cho separately.

산디에고는 미국에서 여섯번째로 큰 도시로서, 미군 해군 기지가 위치하고 있고, 이동통신과 바이오테크 벤처 회사들이 운집해 있어 “남부의 실리콘 밸리”라고 불리기도 합니다.
 

산디에고에 진출한 한국 업체로는 삼성, LG, 현대, 한진 등의 대기업을 비롯하여 많은 회사들이 현지법인을 두고 상시로 주재원들을 보내거나 현지에서 인력을 채용하고 있습니다. 멕시코와 국경 도시라 멕시코에 진출한 기업들의 주재원이나 인력들이 많이 모여사는 곳입니다. LA에서 남쪽으로 약 2시간 정도 떨어져 있습니다.중소업체 및 개인사업자의 경우 물류업, 무역업, 요식업, 여행업, 컨설팅 등 다양하나 LA 대비 숫자면에서는 월등히 낮은 편입니다.
 

  하이테크 분야로의 중소업체 및 개인사업자 진출은 드문 편으로서 관광지로서의 높은 부동산 비용 / 유지비용, 그리고 중소업체나 개인사업보다는 미국 대기업을 비교적 선호하는 이민 1.5/2세들의 문화등이 원인이라 할 수 있습니다.
 

  인근의 LA  대비 진출 한국인 수의 부족으로 지부 운영의 활성화가 처음에는 어려움이 있을 것으로는 판단되나, 산디에고가 미국의 하이 테크 벤처 산업에서 차지하는 비중을 감안할 때 (특히 이동통신, 바이오테크, 그리고 친환경 분야들), 지역적인 잠재성은 상당히 크다고 판단되며, 이에 따라 향후 한국 중소기업들과의 경제활동이 활성화되면, 진출 기업인 수도 증가하여, 많은 교류가 있을 것으로 판단됩니다. 현재 산디에고의 한인회 활동도 비교적 활발하기 때문에, 저희 산디에고 지부는 하이테크 분야에 종사하는 현지 (한인) 중소기업인들을 집중적으로 관리할 계획입니다. 따라서 현재 시점에서는 미미한 출발일 수 있으나, 향후 어느 지부보다도 더 중요하고 활발한 지부가 될 것이라 확신합니다.
 

 현재 시급한 과제인 회원 정족수 확보를 위한 방안은 아래와 같습니다.
 

1. 산디에고에 기반을 두고 하이테크 분야로 사업을 하시는 한인들과의 교류
 - 중소업체 및 개인사업자들과 지속적으로 교류를 한다면 10인 이상의 정회원 추가 확보가 가능
 - 재미 한국과학자 협회의 산디에고 지부와 협력하여 INKE의 지속적인 홍보
 

2. 미국시장진출을 원하는 한국 중소기업들에 도움이 될 수 있는 미국 연방정부 및 주 정부 프로그램 소개 및 상담을 통한 새로운 기업 (현지법인) 설립
 - Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) program
 - Low-interest loans and incentives available from Small Business Administrator
 

3. 미국진출을 원하는 중소기업의 현지 법인 설립 및 현지 인력 고용에 대한 상담

  지부 운영방안은 아래와 같습니다.
 

1. 산디에고 지역으로 하이 테크 분야로서 시장 진출을 원하는 한인들을 위한 정보제공처 역할
 - 회원들의 오랜 경험과 다양한 분야의 경험으로 실용적인 정보제공 가능
 - 미국 연방 정부와 주 정부의 다양한 중소기업지원 프로그램에 대한 안내 (특히 Small Business Innovative Research 프로그램 및 Small Business Administrator에서 관리하는 금융 프로그램)
 - 현지 법인 설립 및 운영 (현지 인력 고용, 법률 및 회계) 에 대한 상담 및 소개
 

2.     산디에고 회원들이 역으로 한국 시장으로 진출을 원하는 경우, 미국의 기술 수출법과 관련 법규에 대한 상담.
 

3.      INKE 회원들과 지속적 교류
